“Linking Health and Physical Education to the Common Core” Professional Learning for Quality Health and Physical Education
Sponsored by: Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Regional Professional Development Centers, the Southwest Center for Educational Excellence and the Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance
This professional development program for physical educators, health educators, administrators and all school health personnel will focus on linking common core standard to health and physical education curriculum. Using the four training tools for healthy schools, The School Health Guidelines to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity, The School Health Index, Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool and Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool, participants will have the opportunity to actively engage in K-12 health and physical education lessons linked to the common core and the new Missouri expectations for fitness assessment. The annual Missouri/DESE legislative update and recommended websites will be presented and discussed. The MOAHPERD Quality Health and Physical Education Cadre will provide sample lessons and assessment tools for classroom use. Resources will be provided for each participant to take back to their district and building staff members.
This will be activity based professional learning. Dress to be active and plan to be engaged and energized! (Bring your laptop, Ipad, reader, tablet and/or smart phone). Requests of each RPDC Site: LCD, screen, podium, activity area, table arrangement to accommodate moving from round table discussions to an open physical activity area, computer lab if available.
