Teacher of the Year Awards

MOAHPERD has approved giving the following Teacher of the Year Awards:

The process of determining the physical education teachers’ of the year is a responsibility of the district representatives.  All of the teacher of the year awards are handled by the Representative Assembly divisions for those areas (e.g. K-121 Health Educator of the Year is handled by the Health Division).

Anyone may nominate a teacher for these awards.  Download the nomination form, complete it and send it to your one of your district representatives.

Early in the fall of each year a letter and nominating forms are sent out to the principals of all schools in the state asking them to nominate teachers for the awards.  Completed nomination forms are sent to the district representatives.

Nominations for awards other than the physical education awards are sent to the executive director.  An application form and letter are then sent to the nominee.  Completed applications that are received are then sent to the respective divisions for evaluation. Winners are notified by letter later than August 1, from the executive director.

Nominees for the physical education awards that are received by district representatives are sent a letter and an appli9cation form and an explanation of the process used to determine the MOAHPERD state teacher of the year.

By June 1 the district representatives will have determined a district winner.  A letter will be sent to the district winner informing of this and the application will be sent on to the chair of the Teacher of txhe Year committee (past president).

The Teacher of the Year committee by August 1 will determine the state winner The executive director will send a letter informing the state winner of the committee’s decision.  A letter will also be sent to the non-winners informing them of the committee’s decision.

District winners and state winners will be recognized at the Saturday night banquet at the fall convention held in November of each year.

State winner applications will be sent on to Central District to compete with winners from eight other states to become the Central District teacher of the year. All state winners are recognized at the Central District annual convention. The Central District Teacher of the Year goes on to compete for national teacher of the year at the AAHPERD national convention.
